Be part of study on improving support for informal carers of people living with dementia!

August 4, 2022

iSupport for Dementia, is an online education program for informal carers (family, friends, and neighbours) originally developed by the World Health Organization (WHO)…

In Australia, the program contains 6 modules: (1) introduction to dementia; (2) being a carer; (3) caring for me; (4) providing everyday care; (5) person-centred care approach to changed behaviour; and (6) consumer-directed care.

The program also includes a program facilitator who will assist informal carers to navigate, access and utilise dementia care services and facilitate online care support group activities. We would like to know informal carers’ experiences of using the Australian iSupport program. We estimate that the total time commitment involved in participating in the trial would be 21 hours over 12 months.

You are invited to the study if you meet these conditions:

  • You are an informal carer aged 18 years old or over.
  • You provide care support for a person with dementia at least twice a week.
  • The person with dementia whom you care for has mild to moderate dementia.
  • You have access to internet via a computer, or a laptop or an iPad.
  • If the person you care for has not been formally diagnosed with dementia but meets the following three criteria (assessed by the researcher): a) mild to moderate cognitive impairment; b) declined self-care ability and c) changed behaviours.

There are a few ways to express your interest.

  • You can text a message or ring the researcher (Ms Ying Yu, Mobile phone number: 0404383505) to express your interest in participation.
  • You can email the researcher to express your interest in participation (Ms Ying Yu, email: yu@flinders.edu.au)

This study has been approved by the Southern Adelaide Clinical Human Research Ethics Committee. You will receive $50 gift voucher per month for 12 months as a token of appreciation for your time contributing to the study.
